Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic substance, candiplanecin. It is an acidic pale yellow oily substance having the following characteristics: elemental analysis: C 59.29%, H 7.3%; [α]D20=+26.3° (c=0.85, CHCl3); solubility, soluble in benzene, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, and methanol; hardly soluble in wateri color reaction, positive to iodine, potassium permanganate, and sulfuric acid, negative to ninhydrin; exhibiting antifungal activity against fungi and yeasts including Candida albicans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Aspergillus oryzae.
USE: Medicine. It can be used for the prevention and remedy of the diseases of man, animal and vegetable caused by fungi or yeasts.
PROCESS: Candiplanecin-producing fungi belonging to Ampullariella genus, e.g. Ampullariella sp. No.43871 (FERM-P No.5646), etc. is cultured by the conventional method for the cultivation of actinomycetes, and the produced candiplanecin is separated and collected using an adsorbent, etc.
