Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the quantity of toner charge with high precision while preventing a developer from sticking to flank part of a magnet by a high- pressure gas flow, by using the magnet, which is fitted with a nonmagnetic materials, as a holding means for the developer.
CONSTITUTION: Nonmagnetic materials 11 are fitted on the external circumference of a magnet 10 which has a magnetic pole surface 10' slanting to a high- pressure gas flow and is rotatable around the magnetic pole surface 10', where a prescribed amount of a developer 5 containing toner 4 and a carrier is stuck in the shape of a magnetic brush. A nozzle 3 blows high-pressure gas to the developer 5 from above the magnetic pole surface 10' thereby scattering the toner 4. After a capacitor 7 is discharged with a switch 1 before charge measurement, the quantity of the charge of the toner 4 is measured by the capacitor 7 and an electrometer 8 connected to the magnet 10. Consequently, no developer sticks on the reverse surfaces of the nonmagnetic materials and the toner is all scattered separately from the carrier, thus measuring the accurate quantity of charge.
