Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal head suitable for high-speed and high-density printing by providing a power supplying electrode on grooves facing each other, formed on one sides of two base plates and having carbon fiber in between. CONSTITUTION:V-shaped grooves 5a are formed on one sides of two silicon base plates 5 by an etching method using hydrofluoric acid, Au electrodes 6 are provided in the face of the V-shaped grooves 5, and heating bodies 7 of carbon fiber are put between the V-shaped grooves 5a. Then, alumina base plates 9 having electrodes 8 of thick Au paste films are fixed to the outsides of them. A protective layer 10 of SiO2, etc., is formed over the heating body, etc., by sputtering method. The heating body 7 is made of carbon fibers having excellent specific strength and excellent specific elasticity and a diameter of about 5-100mum. The cut cross section of the heating body 7 is utilized as a printing head.
