Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve effectively the substantial cycle consisting of start, stop and power control, in a power plant utilizing the osmotic pressure due to difference of the salinity concentration between sea water and fresh water.
CONSTITUTION: The fresh water taken in through a fresh water intake port 5 is sent to a hydraulic turbine 7 through a fresh water piping 6 and serves to generate electric power through a generator 8. The fresh water exhausted from hydraulic turbine 7 flows into a water tank 10 closed by semipermeable diaphragm and is released to the ocean 3 by osmotic pressure. When this power plant is started, the sea water or salt water filled in a tank 10 is sucked in a drain pump 12 from a exhaust port 10B, through branched pipe 16 and stop valve 19, and exhausted into the ocean through a drain piping 13. When pipe 22 is opened while the stop valve 22 of the hydraulic turbine 7 is closed. Subsequently, if a stop valve 18 is opened and a isolating valve 21 is closed, the fresh water flows into a water tank 10 closed by semipermeable diaphragm. And then the stop valve 18 is closed, a valve 25 is opened and a salt water pouring equipment is operated.
