Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the beam output of wide range of wavelength in stabilized form using a low intensity of pumping beam of light by a method wherein a quartz optical fiber having the standardized frequency (V-value) within 2.4-4 in pumping length is used in a laser medium. CONSTITUTION:The pumping beam of light emitted from a light source 10 is focussed by a lens 12 and incidented upon the quartz optical fiber 11, each ingredient of wavelength of the emitted beam of light is picked out by a spectroscope 13, focused by a lens 14 and then irradiated. The phase of the characteristics mode in the optical fiber can be phase-matched with the generating light when the pumping light is formed into two modes or more. As single mode only is obtained at the V-value of 2.4 or below, the V-value is set at 2.4 or above, and when it is at 4 or above, the diameter of core becomes larger, and a high intensity excitation is required to obtain the sum frequency light 18 of an anti-Stokes light 16, a Stokes light 17, a pumping light 15 and a Stokes light 17 by performing tetraphoton mixture, and the ingredient of the sum frequency light can not be obtained stably. According to this constitution, sum frequency light is generated in a propagation mode by the low external laser output using the quartz fiber of small core diameter (V-value of 4 or below) as a laser medium, and a wide- range and stabilized output can be obtained.
