Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve maneuverability by changing over a direct clutch change- over line from speed change line to high vehicle speed side in a region where transfer torque of the released direct clutch is larger than that of the engaged one when a throttle is above a predetermined low speed opening. CONSTITUTION:When direct operation is carried out, vehicle speed is reduced below the values corresponding to points a, b, c, and tendency of a torque converter transfering from the coupling region to the torque converting region is blocked by a direct clutch 4 so that the reduction of vehicle speed is accompanied by shortage of output shaft torque. Thus, when the vehicle speed is lower than the value corresponding to point a, b or c in each speed change stage, the direct clutch is preferably released. The direct clutch 3 is controlled to be engaged or disengaged by a computer 24 according to line eyes prepared on the basis of such values.
