Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the regeneration of a filter member by detachably providing an electric heating unit in close contact with an upstream-side end surface of the filter member, in a system for catching particulates by a filter member encased in a container. CONSTITUTION:The particulate catcher 3 provided in the exhaust pipe of an internal-combustion engine comprises a particulate-catching filter member 4 and an electric heater 5 which are encased in the container 3c, the heater 5 making close contact with the upstream-side end surface of the filter member 4. The position of the heater 5 relative to the container 3c is fixed by a block 16 through fixed arms 13, and a heat insulator 14 (for example, a ceramic honeycomb structure) and a pressing plate 15 having a plurality of through-holes 15a are sequentially layerered on the upper side of the heater 5 to constitute the electric heater unit. The heater 5 is supplied with current through a controller 7 to regenerate the filter member 4 when the output of a pressure-difference sensor 6 for measuring the pressure loss of the filter member 4 reaches or exceeds a predetermined value.
