Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively recover mill scale as an iron source for ferrosilicon by adding a specified amount of dust discharged during the refining pf ferrosilicon to mill scale having a specified grain size, further adding a binder, kneading them, and agglomerating the kneaded material.
CONSTITUTION: To 100 parts mill scale passed through a sieve having 3mm opening is added ≥5 parts dust discharged during the refining of ferrosilicon or metallic silicon, and they are well mixed. A binder such as an impasted aqueous soln. of starch or waste pulp liquor is added to the mixture and well kneaded. The kneaded material is formed into raw pellets or briquettes with an agglomerating apparatus and dried to adjust the water content to ≤ about 6%.
