Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of buckling of the shell in a mold and to improve operation performance in the case of horizontal and continuous casting by drawing an ingot from the inside of the mold then stopping the drawing for a contant time thereafter applying pushing back force for a constant time then drawing the same again. CONSTITUTION:After an ingot is drawn from the inside of a mold for a time T1 at a speed VW, the drawing is stopped for a time T2; thereafter, the ingot is pushed back by the force PB into the mold for a time T3, thence again it is drawn at the speed VW. Thereby, the shell thickness of the brittlest part in the mold is increased during the drawing stoppage period of the time T2 and the possibility of buckling the shell during the pushing back after the drawing is eliminated.
