Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the tape distortion of a magnetic recording medium and to achieve excellent recording and reproduction, by providing an elastic layer having larger elastic constant than that of a support on the surface of a magnetic layer or at the middle of a nonmagnetic support and the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:An elastic layer 13 having the elastic constant preferably higher >=10 times than that of the support 11 is provided on the nonmagnetic substance support 11 such as polyester film and polyimide film. Next, a magnetic layer 12 including magnetic particles such as gamma-Fe2O3 and CrO2 is formed on the layer 13 to achieve the objective magnetic recording medium. Thus, the elongation of tape when an external force is applied to the magnetic recording medium can be reduced. Further, the position of the layer 13 can be put on the surface of the magnetic layer 12 or between the layers 12 and 11.
