Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain an economical electric-powered typewriter with simplified structure by a construction wherein an eccentric cam is rotated by a motor to operate a power shaft, thereby to eliminate a need of providing a motor for each mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A motor 9 is set on the right of the rear portion of a left side plate 14 and it is coupled to a power shaft 5 via a driving gear 17 mounted on its rotary shaft, an eccentric cam 19 pivoted to a cam base mounted on the left side plate 14, and a lever 20. When the power shaft 5 is driven by the motor 9 to be rotated and printing is effectecd by operation of a hammer 12, a lever 63 is rotated by urging force of a spring to impart rotating force to a drum 48, whereby a carrier 3 is shifted to a predetermined position before the hammer 12 strikes a font portion and held at the predetermined position during the printing operation. After the completion of printing, the shaft 5 and the lever 63 are returned to their original positions and then connection between the lever 63 and the drum 48 by a spring clutch is released, so that the carrier 3 driven by a step motor 58 in the required direction.
