Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure current efficiency quickly and continuously and to control supplying of raw materials by collecting the gases produced from an Al electrolyzing furnace continuously, measuring the concns. of CO2 and CO successively, converting these to electrical signals and inputting the signals to a controller.
CONSTITUTION: The gas 5 contg. CO2 and CO produced from the two-dimensional surfaces of anode carbon 1 during operation of an Al electrolyzing furnace is collected continuously with a smapler 6. After it is passed through a dust removing and fluorine removing device 9 and is thereby purified, it is introduced into a converter 11 where CO is converted to CO2, after which this gas is introduced together with said gaseous CO2 into a detector 12, by which the concn. of CO2 is measured continuously. Both measured values are inputted to a detecting electronic circuit device 14 which calculates the concn. value of CO2 and the concn. value of CO before the conversion, and calculates current efficiency from the ratio of formation of CO2 and CO. These are converted to electric signals which are recorded continuously in a recorder 15. The signals are also inputted to a controller 16, which controls the supply of raw material alumina.
