Abstract
PURPOSE: To make molten metal surely fine without causing a change with the passage of time by combining the diffusibility of a high m.p. boride predominant at high temp. with the action of a high m.p. compound such as a nitride.
CONSTITUTION: The boride of an alkaline earth metal, a rare earth metal or a peritectic reaction type inorg. element shows the capacity of making a cast structure fine at high temp. By adding the boride to molten metal together with a high m.p. compound such as the nitride or the acetylene compound of an alkaline earth meral or a peritectic reaction type inorg. element, the whole molten metal is cleaned by dehydrogenation and deoxidation caused by the thermal decomposition of the compounds. Accordingly, the effect of making a cast structure fine is improved to make a cast structure surely fine without causing a change with the passage of time, and a high grade casting free from a flaw is obtd. The used boride is a self-diffusion type boride such as BaB6 or CaB6 or a potential diffusion type boride such as Mg3B2.
