Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove harmful components and the soot and dust in waste gases by forming a moving bed part for a medium that adsorbs harmful components in waste gases such as sulfur oxide.
CONSTITUTION: When the waste gas discharged from a combustion device 1 arrives at an adsorbing and dust removing device 3 through a waste gas pipeline 2, a moving bed of a medium 8 is formed and harmful components in the waste gas, particularly, SOX are adsorbed by the same, and fly ashes and other dust are removed. Activated carbon is best suitable for the medium. The active sites on the surfaces of the activated carbon 8 are occupied gradually by SO3 sulfuric anhydride and H2SO4 sulfuric acid in an adsorbed state while it descends in the device 3, and at the point of the time when it is discharged to the outside of the device, it is nearly satd. The activated carbon that has adsorbed SOX is desorbed of H2SO4 by a method such as washing, and is thereby regenerated. As a byproduct, H2SO4 is recovered. The treated gas is sucked by a fan 4 under the flow rate controlling by a damper 6 and is released through a pipeline 5a out through a chimney 7 into the atmosphere.
