Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a leaf spring having a high rigidity and strong against torsion, by making the spring of fiber-reinforced plastic to fulfill its properties. CONSTITUTION:A 0 deg. UDPP layer 2 made of fiber glass is provided in the center of a leaf spring 1 made of fiber-reinforced plastic, so that the layer carries the main vertical load upon the spring. To manufacture the 0 deg. UDPP layer 2, numerous single fibers of about 7mu in diameter are bundled and stranded or roved fibers are densely juxtaposed in the longitudinal direction. On the top and bottom of the 0 deg. UDPP layer 2, 90 deg. UDPP layers 3, 3 made of carbon fibers are provided. Outside the 90 deg. UDPP layers 3, 3 other 0 deg. UDPP layers 4, 4 made of carbon fibers are provided. Glass cloth layers 5 made of fiberglass are provided as the outermost portions of the leaf spring to carry the clockwise and counter- clockwise torsional load upon the spring.
