Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce uneven length of steel materials and to remarkably improve the yield at the time of cutting, by cutting steel materials with adjusting length after completion of uncoiling of steel materials from the uncoiler.
CONSTITUTION: When steel materials which have a relatively large cutting length tolerance, for example, electric-resistance welded pipes for oil-well, are cut, a sheet type steel material 10 is uncoiled from a uncoiler 12, formed to become a steel pipe 16, and cut for a prescribed length with a edge 18. During the course of this process, a computer 22 gives a cutting instruction of a constant length A to a carriage 20. When the steel material 10 has been uncoiled from the uncoiler 12, the cutting is performed with an adjusting length which is different from the constant length A, and the adjusting length of this time is selected from a prescribed range by the computer 22 so that an uneven length may become minimum. For this purpose, a tail end detector 24 which detects the completion of uncoiling and the remaining length of steel pipe 16, transmits a signal 100 to the computer 22 when the tail end of steel pipe 10 passed through. The computer 22 stops the constant length A cutting, and commands a adjusting length B cutting to the carriage 20 after operating the adjusting length cutting.
