CONSTITUTION:If a head amplifier 3 becomes abnormal to cause its read signal A to drops in level remarkably, the output signal B of an AGC circuit 8 also drops in level suddenly, so a detecting circuit 18 detects its level drop, thereby setting a flip-flop (FF) 15 by its output signal D. Deterioration in the gain of the head amplifier is compensated by inserting the resistance R4 of a differential amplifier 6, so the signal level of the output signal B of the AGC circuit 8 returns to a certain value even when a read signal A having a lower level than a normal one is sent to the AGC circuit 8. Since an output signal H sets the FF15 again, an AND circuit 5 is closed again, so a magnetic disk 1 stops rotating, so that reading operation ends.
