Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a superelastic spring having a shape memory effect of desired shapes by forming a shape memory alloy to a prescribed shape in a temp. region above the Md point, and cooling the same to a temp. region below the Md point.
CONSTITUTION: Electricity is conducted from an electric power source part 1 through electrodes 2, 2 to a blank material (a) of a shape memory alloy to heat the material up to a temp. region above the Md point of the shape memory alloy, thence the material is formed to a coil spring (b). The heating temp. is 200W1,000°C if the shape memory alloy is of Ti-Ni type and 450W900°C if it is of Cu-Zn type. After this coil spring (b) is cut to respective single pieces, the springs are dipped in cooling liquid 3, and are cooled to a temp. region below the Md point.
