Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the cracking of the belt of a belt and wheel type continuous casting device automatically without attendance by installing an eddy current flow detector by facing the casting surface side of said belt. CONSTITUTION:In a continuous casting device wherein a metallic belt 8 engaged and driven with and by a driving wheel and guide wheels 4, 5, 6, 7 and a rotary casting wheel 2 are engaged and run and a cast ingot 9 is produced by charging molten metal from a pot 1 into the mold formed between the belt 8 and the wheel 2, an eddy current flaw detector 18 is installed on the wheel 7. Leg pieces having rollers (a), (b) which are in contact with the belt 8 are provided on both sides of the search coil (c) of the detector 18, and the spacing (d) between the coil (c) and the belt 8 is maintained constant. Unnecessary vibrations are absorbed by springs (e), (f). The quantitative determination of the degree of the cracking of the belt 8 with lapse of time from a remote place is made possible by the above-mentioned detector 18.
