Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst precursor having poisoning resistance and preventing coking, as the hydrogenation catalyst precursor of a heavy oil, by supporting a mixture of molybdenum oxide and nickel oxide on a titania carrier to which heat stability is imparted by tungsten oxide.
CONSTITUTION: To anatase type titania which is the carrier of a hydrogenation catalyst for a polycyclic aromatics and ash containing heavy oil, heat stability is imparted at first by tungsten oxide prior to supporting an activator thereto to prevent transformation thereof to rutile type titania. To this heat stabilized titania, a mixture of molybdenum oxide and nickel oxide is supported as the activator. This catalyst precursor is highly resistant to a poisoning substance such as ash or halogen in hydrogenation of the heavy oil and can avoid coking.
