Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a method of assembling an injection pump to the body of an engine, which is capable of improving the efficiency of assembling operation, by shifting an injection pump such that a predetermined tooth of a valve shaft timing gear for the injection pump comes into engagement with the teeth of a positioning member. CONSTITUTION:After attaching a positioning member 14 to a gear case 3, a first idle gear 6 is placed at a predetermined angular position with a first cylinder in the engine body 1 being placed at the top dead center of the compression stroke. A positioning mark ''1'' is given to one tooth of a valve shaft timing gear 9, and an injection pump 2 is moved toward the gear case 3 in the manner that said one tooth marked ''1'' is located between two teeth 15 of the positioning member 14. Further, positioning marks of figure ''2'' are given to both of the first idle gear 6 and timing gear 9, in the manner that the two marks ''2'' are registered to each other by passing the tooth of the gear 9 marked ''1'' between the two gears 15 of the jig 14. After shifting of the pump 2 is completed, the positioning member 14 is detached and the injection pump 14 is fixed to the engine body 1.
