Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress the noxious constituent liable to be generated at the regeneration by direct combustion of a exhaust gas filter by a method wherein the exhaust gas filter is regenerated with the heated air obtained by heating a heating pipe, which is located upstream of the exhaust gas filter, from its outside. CONSTITUTION:The exhaust gas of the engine is purified by passing through the exhaust gas filter 8 through a pipe 7 and exhausted. At this time, when the filter 8 gets clogged a suction passage change-over valve 15 is changed-over by the signal of a sensor 22 so as to lead suction gas mixture through a pipe 12 to a fuel supply part 16, which is controlled with a solenoid valve 17, in order to be ignited and burnt by means of an ignition and burning part 21. The burnt gas heats the heating pipe 9 located upstream of the filter 8 from its outside so as to raise the temperature within the heating pipe 9 to the high temperature enough to be able to burn away the particles clogging the filter 8 to regenerate the filter 8. The suction gas containing the gas burnt at the ignition and burning part 21 is led again through the change-over valve 15 to the engine to be burnt within the engine.
