Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a transparent doped silica glass body free from residual bubbles at high speed by heat treating doped silica glass powder to increase the particle size and by depositing and melting it on the tip of a starting member. CONSTITUTION:Doped silica glass powder 1 contg. a solubilized dopant is fed to a torch 2, and a flow 4 of the fine glass powder is heat treated with an oxyhydrogen flame 3 to obtain fine glass particles 5 having an increased particle size in a container 6. The particles 5 are deposited and melted on the tip of a starting member with a flame or a plasma flame to obtain a transparent doped silica glass body. By this method the transparent doped silica glass body free from residual bubbles can be manufactured at high speed.
