Abstract
PURPOSE: To easily obtain copper suboxide without forming undesirable yellow copper suboxide by reducing a cupric chloride soln. with an NaNO2 soln. and reacting the resulting cuprous chloride soln. with an alkali soln.
CONSTITUTION: A prescribed amount of salt such as rock salt is charged into a cupric chloride soln., and an NaNO2 soln. i added to reduce Cu2+ to Cu+. The prepared cuprous chloride-NaCl-Na2SO4-Na2SO3 soln. and an alkali soln. such as an NaOH soln. are simultaneously fed to a reactor and reacted. To inhibit the generation of gaseous SO2 in said reduction stage the cupric chloride soln. is required to be maintained at 0.1W4pH. By adding NaNO2 in an excess amount 1.1W1.5 times the theoretical value, the use of an inert gas or the tightly sealable structure of the apparatus is made unnecessary. Precipitated copper suboxide is separated from the liq. reaction product by filtration, and after adding an antioxidant, the copper suboxide is subjected to through-flow drying at a low temp. and recovered.
