Abstract

PURPOSE: To reform alcohol to a gas contg. combustible components as principal components by introducing the alcohol into a catalyst container holding heated honeycomb catalyst brought into close contact with the inside of the container by means of a buffer and causing the endothermic reaction.
CONSTITUTION: Two sheets of honeycomb catalys 11 are put in each division of a catalyst container 12 separated into a plurality of divisions, and a path 13 for a heated gas is formed between the divisions. In the container 12 an alcohol evaporating section 14 and guides 15, 16 forming passages for alcohol and a reformed gas are set. Each separated chamber holding the catalyst 11 is composed of plates 19 heated with a heated gas passing through the paths 13 and of a frame plate 20 binding and fixing the plates 19 facing to each other with the catalyst 11 in-between, and by interposing a buffer 21 between the 2 sheets of honeycomb catalyst 11, the catalyst 11 is brought into close contact with the insides of the plates 19 under the elasticity of the buffer 21. Alcohol fed to the evaporating section 14 from the alcohol inlet 17 evaporates, reaches the lower part of the catalyst 11, and reaches the reformed gas outlet 18. During this time, it is reformed to a gas contg. H2 and CO as principal components.
