Abstract

PURPOSE: A hydrocarbon reforming furnace for preparing pressurized hydrogen used particularly for a fuel cell, which comprises providing double reaction tubes consisting of outer and inner tubes in a reaction vessel partitioned into an upper preheating zone and a lower combustion zone, and packing a catalyst between the both tubes.
CONSTITUTION: A reaction vessel, partitioned into an upper preheating a zone and a lower combustion zone by a tube plate 20 has therein double reaction tubes consisting of an outer tube 6 and an inner tube 7 fixed to the tube plate 20, and a reforming catalyst layer packed between the outer tube 6 and inner tube 7. After preheated in the upper preheating zone, a raw material hydrocarbon gas is reacted through the catalyst layer between the double reaction tubes 6 and 7 in the combustion zone and discharged through the inner tube 7 from the system. In the lower combustion zone, a combustion catalyst 13 is supported between concentric outer and inner double grates 12 and 14, and the double reaction tubes 6 and 7 are placed in the catalyst layer. The title reforming furnace is constituted by introducing a fuel and air into the combustion catalyst layer 13.
