PURPOSE: To prepare a feed for a cultivated mulberry silkworm having a high nutritive value, by adding a plant SHIBIRE KUZUUKON or an extract thereof to the feed.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a powder of a mulberry leaf with a protein, e.g. defatted soybean powder, is mixed with if necessary a vitamin, citric acid or saccharide, and a colloid, e.g. agar or carrageenan, to prepare a gel-like feed. An aqueous extract of a plant SHIBIRE KUZUUKON, a dried material thereof or thaumatin which is an active constituent thereof is added to the feed or an aqueous solution thereof in a concentration of about 1% is sprayed on the feed and given to a silkworm. Alternatively, the aqueous solution of the thaumatin may be sprayed on the leaf of a mulberry and given to the silkworm.
