Abstract

PURPOSE: To ensure a continued operation with the main driving shaft rotating at low speeds or out of operarion by a method wherein a synchronous phase modifier is connected to a rotating load through a clutch.
CONSTITUTION: A rotating load 36 is connected to a synchronous phase modifier 20 through a clutch 34. To drive and control the rotating load 36, a switch 22 is opened and the synchronous phase modifier 20 and the load 36 is connected by a clutch 34. Consequently, all the output of an inverter 18 is applied to the load 36 through the synchronous phase modifier 20. The rotation of the load 36 is controlled by regulating the voltage at an intermediate DC circuit 16 connecting a rectifier 14 and the inverter 18.
