Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a thyristor from overheating at its current concentrating time by interposing a step-up transformer between a converter and a generator at its stationarily operating time, coupling the converter to the generator directly at its current concentrating time and reducing the output current of the converter.
CONSTITUTION: A converter 3 for converting a DC current obtained from a converter 1 to an AC current having predetermined frequency is connected through a step-up transformer 14 to a synchronous motor 4. When a current is concentrated due to deceleration of the speed, a change-over switch 15 of a transformer 14 is opened by a signal from an instructing circuit 17 connected to a speed detector 6, and a switch 16 is closed to apply the output of the converter 3 directly to the motor 4. On the other hand, the circuit 17 generates also a signal to a current limiter 18 to reduce the DC output current from the converter, for example, to 1/3 of that at the stationary time.
