Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyether excellent in compatibility, stability, pouring characteristic and capable of providing urethane foams having improved physical properties, by adding ethylene oxide to tolylenediamine and then adding propylene oxide thereto to a specified hydroxyl value.
CONSTITUTION: 1W1.5mol of ethylene oxide is added to 1mol of tolylenediamine. Then, propylene oxide is added thereto to a hydroxyl value of 300W420(mg KOH/g) to obtain a polyetherpolyol. As the tolylenediamine, there is used a single isomer such as 2,4-tolylenediamine or 3,4-tolylenediamine or a mixture thereof. As the alkylene oxides, there are used ethylene oxide and propylene oxide for the sake of practicality. A rigid polyurethane foam prepared by using the above polyether-polyol can pass the burning test specified in JISA9514-79 without using a phosphorus- or halogen-containing flame retardant.
