Abstract

PURPOSE: On the dimerization of a lower α-olefin in the presence of a catalyst composed of four components, a nickel compound, trialkylaluminum, a phosphorus-containing compound and a halogenated phenol, a catalyst amount of water is added to increase the activity of the catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: On the dimerization of a lower α-olefin using a catalyst that is composed of (A) at least one selected from organic acid salts, inorganic salts and complexes of nickel, (B) a trialkylaluminum, (C) at least one selected from trivalent phosphorus compounds of formulaI, II, and III (R1, R2, R3 are alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, phenyl; n=1W3). (D) at least one selected from halogenated phenols of formula IV (X1W5 are halogen, H, at least one is halogen), a catalyst amount of water is added, preferably at a molar ratio of 0.1W2.0 to the trialkylaluminum.
