Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled pigment which gives a slurry paint having excellent dispersibility and storage stability, by adding an onionic surfactant to a scaly aluminum paste pigmen in an org. solvent, mixing a large amount of water with the mixture, and then subjecting the resulting dispersion to a solid-liquid separation treatment.
CONSTITUTION: A nonionic surfactant having an HLB of 11W14 is uniformly mixed with a scaly aluminum paste pigment in an org. solvent such as a pigment obtd. by blending a medium such as xylene, a lubricant such as stearic acid and other various dispersants with aluminum powder. Then a large amount of water is uniformly mixed with the mixture. The resulting dispersion is subjected to a solid-liquid separation treatment by means of decantation, centrifugal separation or filtration. A paste material is recovered. There can be obtd. a scaly aluminum paste pigment suitable for use in water paint, particularly a slurry paint.
