Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a rotor having a holding ring of high strength even at a cryogenic temperature and small specific weight by forming the ring for holding the end of a superconductive field coil of alpha-phase titanium alloy.
CONSTITUTION: When the linear part of a superconductive field coil 3 is contained in a slot of a coil mounting shaft 2, is then secured with a wedge 19, the end of the coil 3 is contained in the stepped part of the shaft 2 and a holding ring 16 is shrink-fitted and held, the ring 16 is formed of alpha-phase titanium alloy. The alloy is preferably Ti-5A1-2.5SnELI. In this manner, the alloy is not enbrittled even at a cryogenic temperature, the ring having small specific weight can be obtained, and a rotor usable even at the cryogenic temperature can be obtained.
