Abstract
PURPOSE:To accurately measure the depth of water near a quay by fitting a sonar vertically to a weight, suspended vertically from a jib projecting from a crane running on a quay to over the surface of water, so that the tip part of the sonar is dipped in the water. CONSTITUTION:A wire 2b is hung from a jig 2a projecting from a crane 2 running in parallel to a quay to over the sea surface. An operation floor 3 as a weight is suspended from the wire 2b, and a sonar 4 is fitted with its measurement surface down while being directed in a vertical direction. Then, only the lower end of the sonar 4 is dipped sufficiently in the water and the distance between the quay 1 and suspended operation floor 3 and that of the floor 3 and the reverse surface of sonar 4 are found. The crane runs while varying the distance between the sonar 4 and quay 1 by slanting the jib 2a, thus finding the depth of water near the quay 1 all over.
