PURPOSE:To reduce the leakage magnetic flux of a linear motor by surrounding a field magnet around the outside of a movable coil in a range that does not interrupt the movement of the coil. CONSTITUTION:A movable cylindrical coil 18 movably engaged with a cylindrical yoke 20 functioning as a magnetic path and movements is retained by a speed detecting coil 19 on the lower surface of an arm base 12. Field magnets 26, 27 made of plates having circular-arc section magnetized at N-pole at the inside and at S-pole at the outside of the same shape at both sides, are so secured at both ends to side plates 24, 25 respectively to surround the movable space of the coil 18 from front and rear. Since the leakage magnetic flux tending to generate reverse driving force to the running direction can be reduced in this manner, the driving force acting in the running direction of the movable coil can be increased.
