Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a filter for removing carbon in an exhaust gas having high impact resistance, thermal stress resistance, strength and filtering efficiency by using fiber ceramic with high density fiber piled structure based on heat resistance inorg. fiber as a filter element. CONSTITUTION:After fibrous ceramic cut into a length of 0.1-10mm. is dispersed in water and, to the obtained dispersion, a clay powder prepared by adding fine particles such as alumina, magnesia or the like to silica-alumina type clay is added in a ratio of 4-60wt% based on a total amount to be mixed in aqueous slurry and, after a starch solution is added thereto to coagulate dispersed substances, the slurry is dehydrated and molded into a thin plate like form in a mold and, after the molded object is baked at 900-1,300 deg.C in air to prepare a filter element 2, this filter elements 2 are mutually arrange in a filter case 1 so as to positioned on the diagonal line thereof to obtain the filter constituting a suction gas chamber 4 communicated with a suction port 3 connected to the exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine and an exhaust gas chamber 6 communicated with a discharge port 5.
