Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a mechanically tough sensitive film by impregnating a porous substrate with a sensitive film material and allowing the same to solidify. CONSTITUTION:An ion selective sensing part 2 consists of a porous substrate which is impregnated with a soln. prepd. by dissolving a sensitive film in a solvent and is allowed to dry and solidify. A glass filter prepd. by calcined glass filter or other biscuit ceramics are used for the above-mentioned porous substrate. For example, in the stage of measuring K<+> ions, a glass filter plate with 0.2mm. thickness is impregnated with a soln. prepd. by dissolving a mixture of Valinomycin, a plasticizer (for PVC) and PVC with tetrahydrofuran and the tetrahydrofuran is allowed to evaporate, whereby the sensitive film is formed in the pores of the glass filter. If a KCl soln. of a known concn. is used for the internal liquid 5 of the electrode and the material which is formed with an AgCl coating on the surface of silver is used as an internal electrode 4, the constant voltage in accordance with the known K<+> ion concn. is generated between the part 2 and the liquid 5, and the K<+> ion activity in the soln. 1 is determined by measuring the electrode potential.
