Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain hollow fibers having specific micropores and improved water and moisture absorbing properties, by adding a metallic salt of a sulfobenzenecarboxylic acid to a polyester containing a copolymerized specific organic sulfonic acid, spinning the resultant mixture, and eluting the resultant fibers partially with an aqueous solution of an alkali.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymeric polyalkylene terephthalate containing a small amount of a copolymerized metallic salt of an organic sulfonic acid expressed by formulaI(Z is hydrocarbon group; M1 is metal; R1 is ester-forming group; R2 is H or ester-forming group) and a 2W6C alkylene glycol is mixed with 0.3W 15mol%, based on the acid component, metallic salt of a sulfobenzenecarboxylic acid expressed by formula II (R3 is H or ester-forming group; M2 and M3 are metals; n is 1 or 2), and the resultant mixture is then spun to give fibers, which are treated with an aqueous solution of an alkali to elute 2W50wt% fibers and give the aimed hollow fibers having micropores with a diameter of 0.01W3μ and a length of 50 times or less the diameter partially communicated with the hollow parts.
