Abstract

PURPOSE:To adapt a captioned device to be adjustable to a new type of folding by providing a mechanism capable to adjust the speed of rotation of a pair of folding rolls for folding smoothly without reference to the width of folded leaves. CONSTITUTION:A mechanism provided under a table 14 to change the rotational speed of a pair of folding rolls 15 is constructed of a roll gear 27, idle gears 28 and 29, bevel gears 31 and 32, and a gear box 45 consisting of gears 33-36, a clutch 38, a drive shaft 42, and others. In case the paper width of folded leaves 11 and 12 is 1/2, when the clutch 38 is shifted to the left, a driven shaft 41 is rotated at a lower speed than the drive shaft 42, and consequently, the pair of folding rolls 15 are rotated at a low speed. In the case of folded leaves 21 and 22 of 1/1 paper width, when the clutch 38 is shifted to the right, the pair of folding rolls 15 are rotated at a high speed. This construction permits to adapt itself to a new type of folding, since folded leaves 11, 12, 21, and 22 can be smoothly folded without reference to their paper widths.
