Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce power of friction loss in a runner side board and improve efficiency of a water turbine, by sealing compressed air to a runner side chamber, discharging water partially from the runner side chamber and forming an air layer in the runner side chamber. CONSTITUTION:At starting of a water turbine, after water in a flow line partially passes a runner gas 8B to flow into a runner side chamber 10, if compressed air is sealed to the runner side chamber 10 by a compressed air sealing device 15, the water in the runner side chamber 10 is pressed to the peripheral side by pressing force of the sealed compressed air and rotary energy transmitted from a runner side board 4, and the water passes through runner gaps 8B, 9B to flow into a draft tube 2. Accordingly, power of friction loss caused to the runner side board 4 is reduced to improve efficiency of the water turbine.
