Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently perform anaerobic digestion and aerobic biological purification, by subjecting the solubilized, digested and concentrated solid matter of thin crude night soil to the anaerobic digestion, extracting separated supernatant, and subjecting the supernatant to the aerobic biological purification.
CONSTITUTION: Thin crude night soil is introduced into a heated thickener 2, after optionally subjected to preliminary soil-liquid separation in a sedimentation pool 1. The thickener 2 has a capacity capable of reserving a three or more day's volume of night soil. During staying in the thickener 2, the night soil is concentrated by precipitation of solid matter, while the resultant supernatant is discharged for aerobic biological purification as post-treatment. On the other hand, the conc. solid matter settled in the thickener 2 is taken out through the bottom of the thickener 2 and transferred to an anaerobic digestion vessel 3. Effluent formed by digestion is not carried as such to the aerobic biological purification, but temporarily returned to the thickener 2. Consequently, the solid matter is settled again, and the inflow of the solid matter into the aerobic biological purification step can be inhibited.
