Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the thermal load upon a converter shell and to extend the life of the converter by incorporating water-cooled construction for the entire part of the converter including the upper, lower and bottom parts thereof except its trunnion ring part, and heat insulating construction for the internal refractory linings of the trunnion ring part.
CONSTITUTION: Water-cooled construction is employed for the entire part of a furnace body except its trunnion ring part (c) by providing cooling pipes 4 in the upper part A, lower part and bottom part B of the furnace body. Further, heat insulating construction is incorporated for the part (c) by sandwiching heat insulating materials 5 between permanent bricks 2 and work bricks 3. In some cases, an air cooling mechanism for air-cooling the part (c) is further provided. Hence, the thermal load upon a shell 1 is reduced considerably and the service life is extended.
