Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the cooling effect of a rolling material higher and installations smaller by retaining an upper header in the position upper than a water film forming position and supplying laminar flow-like cooling flow to the top surface of the rolling material during passing of the leading end part of said material. CONSTITUTION:In the stage of forming water film flow on the top and bottom surface of a rolling material, an upper header 19 is retained in an upper position and laminar flow-like cooling flow is supplied through a nozzle 20 to cool a strip 1 from the top surface thereof during passing through of the leading end of the strip 1. Thereby, the leading end of the strip 1 is passed through and cooled smoothly. In the steady passing through of the strip 1, a motor 16 is driven to position a supporting beam 13 by means of a position adjusting jack 12 to retain the upper header 19 in the water film forming position. In this state, the water film flow is formed in the clearance between a flat plate guide 21 and the top surface of the strip 1, whereby the strip 1 is cooled from the top surface with high heat conductivity.
