Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce an antiferromagnetic Invar type alloy easy to cut by a method wherein an alloy containing Ge, Cr, Mo, Zn, Co, Be, C, Mn and the like in specified ratios is subjected to a specified heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy composition containing, by weight, 20W33% of Ge as the main constituent and 0.01W11% in total of at least one of 0.01W11% of Cr or the like, 0.01W10% of Mo or the like, 0.01W9% of Zn or the like, 0.01W 6% of Co or the like and 0.01W1% of C or the like, with up to 1% of unavoidable impurities and the balance being Mn, is melted at a high temperature of not lower than 870°C and is cast to produce an article of a predetermined shape. Then, the article is homogenized by appropriate heating in the temperature range from 500°C (inclusive) to the melting point (exclusive) for a period of time of 1minW500hr. Then, the article is cooled from a temperature in the range from 500°C (inclusive) to the melting point (exclusive) at a rate of at least 0.7°C/hr to produce a crystalline single phase having hexagonal lattice. The product has a linear expansion coefficient of -8×10-6W+8×10-6 in the temperature range of -50°CW+100°C.
