Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a picture with high image resolution at all times, by providing an optical deflecting means for electrically varying an incident angle of a light beam to a photoelectric converting means, and forming an image of a picture to be detected, by shifting it on the photodetecting surface. CONSTITUTION:A light beam from an object to be photographed is made to form an image in a solid image pickup device 4 through an image formation system 3 and an optical deflecting plate 7, and when voltage is not applied between both ends of the optical deflecting plate 7, only a black pattern of a pattern image (a) is read out in order by unit photoelectric converting elements 111, 112,..., and is stored in a memory 6. When voltage from a control voltage circuit 8 is applied between both the ends of the optical deflecting plate 7, an incident angle of an incident ray to the solid image pickup element 4 is varied, for instance, a pattern (b) whose pitch has been shifted by only 1/2 forms an image, and outputs of the unit converting elements 111, 112,... correspond to white. When the outputs before and after deflection are synthesized, the image resolution becomes 2 times. When the image is moved by a distance of 1/n, and is detected and synthesized (n) times, the image resolution becomes (n) times. In this way, a picture is detected with high image resolution at all times.
