Abstract

PURPOSE:To expedite a test for a recording medium by scanning with a rotary head the recording medium in a magnetic recording apparatus wherein data is recorded in the shape of oblique stripes on the recording medium having a large width by a magnetic head, by conducting a test of one stripe in one initial rotation, and by discriminating thereof in one subsequent rotation. CONSTITUTION:The program of a designated test sequence is transferred to RAM connected to the microprocessor (MPU2) of a test sequence control unit 12, by a memory connected to MPU1 of a man-machine interface control unit 11. MPU2 inputs an instruction according to the program in an MSS recording device 13 controlling a recording medium (data cartridge) 15 to be tested. Said device 13 is connected to a testing circuit comparing regenerated data with test data and discriminating the same. The test is conducted in one rotation of a rotary head, and the quality of the medium is conducted in one subsequent rotation. The result of the test is stored in RAM of MPU2, and after completion of tests of all stripes, the results thereof are transferred from MPU2 to MPU1 and delivered for printing and display.
