Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent lubricating oil from decreasing its viscosity caused from its temperature rise while ensuring good performance of exhaust gas purification, in a cooling device of the lubricating oil where an exhaust gas purifying device is arranged in the vicinity of a skirt part in a cylinder block, by providing cooling water passages in skirt part. CONSTITUTION:A water-cooled engine is provided with a catalytic converter 15 used as an exhaust gas purifying device in an exhaust pipe 14, and said converter is located in the vicinity of a skirt part 1a in a cylinder block 1. Further cooling water passages 16, 17 are formed respectively to the internal wall of a cylinder 2 in the cylinder block 1 and each internal wall of intake and exhaust ports 8, 9 in a cylinder head 6. Here, for instance, two stripes of cooling water passages 19, horizontally extended at a face-to-face position to the catalytic converter 15, are provided in said skirt part 1a, and the skirt part 1a can be cooled by communicating said passages 19 to said passages 16, 17. In this way, lubricating oil, passing along the skirt part 1a and returning to an oil pan 12, can be supressed its temperature rise, and its viscosity can be maintained to a good state.
