Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the discharge utilization rate of zinc by amalgamating zinc powder in electrolyte containing a gelling agent, which is a mixture consisting of a cross-linked polyacrylic soda and a carboxymethylcellulose with a high substitutional degree, so as to make a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:As a gelling agent for alkaline electrolyte, a mixture consisting of a carboxymethylcellulose with a substitutional degree of above 1.4, and either a multi-branched polyacrylic acid prepared by adding polyacrylic acid molecular chains to the side chains of a linear polyacrylic acid, or a cross-linked polyacrylic soda such as the soda salt of a polyacrylic acid polymer which is made from acrylic acid and a multi-function monomer such as methylenebisacrylamide or divinylbenzene is used. The above gelling agent is added and mixed with an alkaline electrolyte made of caustic potash so as to prepare a gel-like electrolyte and the gel-like electrolyte is amalgamated by being added with zinc powder and mercury metal, thus aggregated amalgamated zinc used as a negative electrode 2 is obtained.
