Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a processing speed during access by eliminating the need for substitute processing by a disk controller by inhibiting a sector pulse output which corresponds to a defective sector by a specific means. CONSTITUTION:An ROM12 uses a track address held in a register 11 as a readout address to output a sector signal, leading a defective sector by one, from the corresponding address. A counter 15 is initialized by an index pulse IP and generates an increment output by a sector pulse SP, and its contents are compared with the output of the ROM12 by a comparator 16, thereby outputting an effective inhibition signal from the comparator 16 when coincidence between the both is detected. Consequently, an AND gate 18 is closed to inhibit the (S)th sector pulse SP from being transferred to a disk controller, so that a controller accesses a magnetic disk device by automatically jumping over the defective sector while disregarding the presence of the defective sector.
