Abstract

PURPOSE: To flow out only the molten steel and to prevent the outflow of steel slag by flowing out the molten steel beyond the edge part of a tap hole by means of an electromagnetic pump provided near the lower part of the tap hole of a refining vessel.
CONSTITUTION: A stainless steel plate 5 of a nonmagnetic material is provided in the recess of the side wall near the part lower than the tape hole 2 of a converter C, and an electromagnetic pump 6 is disposed in said recess. In the stage of tapping, the hole 2 is beforehand closed with cloth or the like and the furnace C is tilted. As it is tilted, molten slag S tries to flow out, but it is blocked by the cloth and cannot flow out. However, at a certain point of the tilting, tapping is started and only the molten steel M flows out through the hole 2. In due course of time, the tapping ceases and at the point of the time when it decreases, the tilting angle of the converter is slightly reset, after which the pump 6 is operated. Then, molten steel M is flowed out through the hole 2 beyond the cross gate, and since no flow is given to the slag S, it remains on the steel M by gravity.
